Kampot... This place is awesome!

Really this post should be called Naga House, not Kampot, because most our time spent there was in our AMAZING hostel. Kampot was our last stop in Cambodia before going to Vietnam! We were recommended to go stay at Naga House by Alma, who, if you remember, we met in Koh Samui & saw again in Pnomh Penh. This place stole us a little bit – and mann, that keeps on happening, it must be a thing out here -Southeast Asia steals you, and personally I think everyone should buy a one way ticket, and let themselves be stolen by all the amazing places in the world!

Well, we didn’t know much about Kampot.. just that there was this great hostel to stay at, called Naga House. So, after trying (and failing) to persuade other backpackers we met on our way there from Sihanukville to come, we continued on our way to this infamous Naga House. There was a girl I met on the bus that had heard of it, and told us some places around it to go to, but we were still a bit worried, after the tuk tuk took us about 10 minutes out of the city.. We began questioning our decision..

When the tuk tuk dropped us off, we didn’t really know where to go. There was beautiful scenery to our left; land and mountains, what more do you need!? Well a place to stay.. but to our right all we saw was a dirt road and a travel hut along the “main” road we were standing on. Well, we decided to give that dirt road a go to see where it lead (hopefully to our hostel)! ..And it DID! When we finally arrived, any doubts in our minds about the hostel or the fact it wasn’t in the center of the city, disappeared.

This place was great! It’s right on the river, and there was a wooden diving board, tubes, tree trunk tables and chairs, hammocks, a bar & cafe, and just seemed like an amazing place to just chill! All that along with the awesome music that was playing, it was everything you need in order to never have to leave!

After checking in, they showed us our room, which was SERIOUSLY awesome! In order to get up to it, you have to walk up bamboo steps, after leaving your sandals/shoes at the bottom of course, then you walk into basically a big bungalow full of about 6 beds with mosquito nets over each one. There is also a balcony that had a few more beds on it! Soo chill and cool. We felt like we could stay for a long time.. Especially once we met this couple who came for a few days, and have been here 2 weeks.

Our first day I was talking to a guy (I think Swedish) who is a traveller, and is working there in exchange for a place to sleep/live for a while, his bed being on the floor of the hostel’s boat. He told us about a boat ride down the river for a few hours that night, which both Ally and I decided to do. It was beautiful and soo relaxing!! We met quite a few others from the hostel as well; Jenny and her bf from Finland (they remembered Alma)! A Scottish gal (Ally was happy about that), a few others, and the owner of the hostel joined us down the river as well. We just did a whole lot of chillin and enjoying the river, mountains, sunset, and beautiful terrain in the distance.

So, in the next few days, Ally and I decided to stay here longer instead of going to Kep (the last place in Cambodia that we were thinking of going to). Funny thing is, is we really didn’t do much other than a whole lot of relaxing, chilling, and taking a break from the hectic business of travelling.

What we did was:
Met a bunch of people, went on some sunset boat rides, enjoyed some local food and beers, had a nice local style dinner out with new friends from the hostel, chilled in hammocks, read a lot, swam and tubed in the river, biked around the town, and ended up staying 3 extra days lol… can you blame us??

Next stop: Saigon! HoChi Minh City, Vietnam!
